Ok. I chose this hotel because it was #1 in Holbox on Tripadvisor. It was a last minute trip, and I didn’t have much time to plan. So I did the lazy researching; following Tripadvisor. Overall I’m glad I did but here are the details.
It couldn’t be any better. It’s short 10 min walk from the ferry station, and it’s right on the beach.
Breakfast is included in the room rate. Waking up in the morning with the sound of waves and strolling out to have my breakfast served at the beach was priceless. The coffee was great, and everything else was delicious as well. But the free breakfast includes only coffee, juice, and toasts. If you want any of the egg dishes, you have to order with additional charge. I thought it was a bit cheap of them to advertise “Free Breakfast” and charge extra for something as simple as scrambled eggs.
Ugh… Wifi… Trying to write this article and doing some research was the most painful thing during the whole trip. But it wasn’t the hotel’s fault. The entire island has very little cell reception and very little Wifi. So if you want to visit Isla Holbox, get ready to really disconnect.
They have five different rooms and here are the photos and descriptions of each room types.
Ocean View Rooms
If your idea is to relax and look out over the ocean, this is the kind of accommodation that guarantee you this opportunity. The charmed Ocean View Rooms are just in front of the ocean, and they have one king size bed, private bathroom, safety box, air conditioning, ceiling fan, and terrace.
The peculiar feature of the bungalows is the straw roof. To isolate the bungalows, the roof was covered with cement and then with straw. Both bungalows have a private bathroom, hairdryer, safety box, air conditioning (mini-split) and ceiling fan.
The Studio Bungalow is very spacious, and it has a king size bed and a single bed. It is located in front of the reception.
The other Bungalow is on two floors. On the ground floor there is an equipped kitchenette, and on the first floor, there are two queen beds, the bathroom and a terrace with lateral sea view, partially covered by palm trees.
At the first floor, there is a sunburst of 5 rooms. All the rooms have a balcony with hammock to relax, private bathroom, hair drier, safety box, air conditioning (mini-split) and ceiling fan.
Four rooms have a king size bed, front or lateral beach view from the balcony. However, the view is partially covered by the palm trees.
The fifth room has two queen beds and the balcony is facing the garden.
They are on the ground-floor, and they have a king size bed, private bathroom, hair drier, safety box, air conditioning (mini-split) and ceiling fan.
These rooms are as pretty as the other ones, even though they do not have an ocean view… the sea is a few steps away.
It’s not the cheapest, but I felt that the price was justified for its location and beautiful decor of the hotel.
Overall, I really liked the hotel. It was a bit pricier than I would have liked in Mexico, but Isla Holbox is a small island with very limited space. And this hotel is literally at the best location in the whole island. For that reason, I will stay at Hotel Mawimbi again if I go back to Isla Holbox.
